There are some yews that I want to remove becasue they stand too proud from the house, and ui want to make a brick path so I can get to the spiget for the hose, but what do I but in that ugly area with no grass? Stones? Mulch? Some sort of shade loving tall grass might be quite nice. Wild flowers?
Any suggestions?
There is a shady corner in my house that grows no grass. What can I put there that might grow?
plants from the gender Hedera (for example hedera helix) grows perfectally OK in the shade. you can use it as a carpet (as grass) over the soil, and it can climb a wall too. but you can´t step on it very offen, because it wiil ruin the plant. wish you luck
Reply:Visit your local nursery, they are helpful.''
Otherwise just choice plants them you can see thrive well in that kind of shady position.
Reply:I suggest flowers. I espescailly like Columbines which prefer the cool.
Reply:Hostas are a great shade perennial. The leaves come up in mid to late spring. They don't get too big, but spread nicely each year.
Reply:Going to ur local nursery would b helpful, but if u don`t have the time, well then; u can grow creepers like: strawberries or any gourd. Also if u want something decorative then u can get Orchids, orchids grow well in cool, damp areas so ur shady space should be fine, but for orchids u also need to keep the soil damp, damp not wet! This should do to get u started. If u need any more help plz do write again.
Reply:I've found that ground ivy is perfect for those shady areas. Try using landscaping timbers, or stones, to draw attention to that area as a bed and plant some shaded ground ivy. You never have to weed it and you just ask for shaded ground ivy at your local Home Depot or Lowe's
Reply:I am not sure where you are located, however, I am in Texas and I recently sodded my entire backyard with a new type of St Augustine that came out last year that is very shade tolerant called Amerishade. A company called Turfgrass America grows it. It only 2 1/2-3 hours of sunlight or filtered light. My backyard has never looked this great ever!
