How long do poppies take to grow?

If i threw some wild flower seeds including poppies, how long would the poppies take to grow? could i still have them this year if i did it now?

(or isnt it that easy to plant poppies? does it take more effort than just sprinkling wild flower seeds somewhere?)

thanks! =D

Yes I agreed with Rod, Poppy seeds are very unpredictable. I had some beautiful double poppies in my garden, I scattered the seeds over the top of the ground, just as they would have done if I had left them, that was two years ago, I am still waiting for them. The wild poppy grows very easily though. The farmer ploughs a field 12" deep, and two months later the field will be a sea of red poppies. Strange................
Reply:Apparently forever, I planted seeds around mid-May, along with some cosmos. The cosmos is thriving, but I have yet to see any sign of the poppies.

Both are in the same bed, same soil prep, same moisture, same sun light.

The seed packet did not give a germination time, maybe they don't know either.
Reply:Poppy seeds are very tiny, and could easily blow away or wash away if they are just thrown on top of the soil. The are slow growers, and would not bloom until the following year. If you want poppies, you may want to try starting them in pots.
Reply:I think poppies seeded this year will bloom next year. They might be need the cold to make them grow?
Reply:r u tryin 2 take drugs... u kno dat poppy seed r in da drugs...!!!!
